Product Warranties and Data Recovery Service



Isn't the cost of data recovery covered by my product's warranty?

Because quality data recovery services can have highly unpredictable costs, depending on the nature & extent of the data loss suffered, most disk drive manufacturers (including Lenovo) cannot plan for the cost of providing free data recovery in their standard product warranty coverage and continue to provide affordable, cutting-edge digital storage technology for their customers.

No matter how reliable the technology, unfortunately digital storage can be susceptible to mechanical or electrical failures over their lifetime. While product warranties will typically cover the replacement of any product that is not properly functioning, incidental expenses such as data recovery costs or time lost are generally not covered.

We recommend checking with your disk drive/media manufacturer for specific information about your warranty's coverage relating to data recovery prior to proceeding with the actual recovery of your data. Will getting data recovered from my disk/drive affect my original manufacturer's warranty?

Regardless of the brand or type of media you need to retrieve information from, our data recovery specialists use the latest specialized tools, techniques, and clean room technology in our labs to ensure that your media is preserved as close to the manufacturer's original quality standards as possible.

While most hard drive manufacturers' warranties do not allow the media to be opened by any third-party, because of the professional, high-quality standards used by Lenovo Data Recovery Services, usually this is not an issue. However, cheaper data recovery services or do-it-yourself products are highly likely to void your original manufacturer's warranty.

I have an Lenovo product. What if I need an RMA along with getting my files recovered?

If you have an Lenovo product and need to get files recovered off of your drive or disk before being replaced,* don't worry – we'll take care of it for you. Just let one of our data recovery specialists know that you have an Lenovo product you need to get replaced, and we'll handle it from there. When we recover your data, we'll return your files on your replacement Lenovo product and you'll be ready to go!

* Data Recovery is a fee-based service and is not included as part of the in-warranty RMA service.
